The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) celebrates 55 years of the NASW Code of Ethics with a commemorative edition. The first NASW Code of Ethics was adopted by the NASW Delegate Assembly on October 13, 1960. Over the last 55 years, the Code of Ethics has evolved with social, professional, and other societal developments to remain relevant and to address the needs of social workers and the protection of clients, regardless of practice setting. Today, the NASW Code of Ethics continues to be the standard bearer in defining and advancing professional social work values and principles. A portion of the proceeds from this commemorative edition will go to the Wichers Ethics Education Fund, which supports innovative programs that create opportunities for social workers to learn and dialogue about critical professional ethics issues, advancing ethical practice across the social work profession.
