Resiliency
An Integrated Approach to Practice, Policy, and Research
The human condition is more than a web of pathology. We are compelled to focus not just on an individual’s difficulties but also to recognize the strengths that lie within. This is equally true of families, groups, and communities. Resiliency: An Integrated Approach to Practice, Policy, and Research, edited by Roberta Greene, helps broaden our knowledge of how some individuals overcome adverse life circumstances. The book is very timely and I encourage its use for human behavior courses.

Roberta Greene and her contributors have done a masterful job of providing a conceptual base for the paradigm shift occurring in practice that promotes healthy functioning and use of the boundless inner spirit, strengths, and resources of clients. This exhaustive volume also shows the applicability of resilience-based practice in diverse settings, across social work methods, and even provides specific intervention strategies at each of these levels. Interviews with individuals who have achieved in the face of overwhelming circumstances add a warm, humane, and personal touch to this scholarly work.
