M. C. Hokenstad, PhD, is the Ralph S. and Dorothy P. Schmitt
Professor in the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences and professor of International
Health in the School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. He has long been
active in international organizations and currently serves as membership secretary of the
International Association of Schools of Social Work and as a member of the United Nations
Non-Governmental Committee on Aging. Dr. Hokenstad has been editor-in-chief of the International
Social Work Journal and has published extensively in the fields of international
social welfare, social gerontology, and social work education. His books include Participation
in Teaching and Learning: An Idea Book for Social Work Educators (with Barry Rubgy,
1977), Linking Health Care and Social Services (with Roger Rituo, 1982), Gerontological
Social Work: International Perspectives (with Katherine Kendall, 1988), and Profiles
in International Social Work (with James Midgley and S. K. Khinduka, 1992). He has
received two Fulbright Awards for teaching and research in Scandinavia and has been a
visiting professor and program consultant at several universities in Europe and Asia.
James
Midgley, PhD, is the Harry and Riva Specht Professor of Public Social
Services and dean of the School of Social Welfare at the University of California at
Berkeley. He has published widely on international social work, social development, and
social policy. His major books include Professional Imperialism: Social Work in the
Third World (1961); Social Security, Inequality, and the Third World (1984), Comparative
Social Policy and the Third World (with Stewart MacPherson, 1987), Profiles in
International Social Work (with M. C. Hokenstad and S. K. Kinduka, 1992), Social
Development: The Development Perspective in Social Welfare (1995) and Social
Welfare in Global Context (1997). He has also contributed to many leading social
policy, social work, and development journal studies. |
