Jane Crosby is director of the Violence and Development Project for the National
Association of Social Workers. She received her master's of social work degree from Boston
University in 1991. She previously worked at Oxfam America, an international development
agency, where she directed the national education and fundraising hunger campaign, Fast
for a World Harvest.Dorothy Van Soest, DSW, is associate dean and
associate professor at the School of Social Work, University of Texas at Austin. She has
authored several articles and chapters on issues related to violence, peace, social
justice, and development, as well as the book Incorporating Peace and Social Justice
into the Social Work Curriculum (NASW, 1992). Her forthcoming book, The Global
Crisis of Violence: Common Problems, Universal Conse-quences, Shared Solutions, will
be published by the NASW Press in 1997. She is former director of the NASW Violence and
Development Project.
