About the Authors
Mary Kay Houston-Vega, PhD, ACSW, MSW, LCSW, is associate
professor at the School of Social Work, Barry University, Miami Shores, FL. An experienced
practitioner as well as educator, Dr. Houston-Vega has published and presented frequently
about social work malpractice risks, crisis intervention, suicide, violence, and HIV. She
has coauthored a risk management paper with Elane M. Nuehring published in Managers'
Choices: Compelling Issues in the New Decision Environment (1992) and coauthored with
John Wood, "Suicide and Treatment of Persons Infected with HIV" in Community
Mental Health and HIV (in press). |

Elane M. Nuehring, PhD, MSSW, is professor at the School of Social
Work, Barry University, Miami Shores, FL. Dr. Nuehring's background includes extensive
social work consultation and scholarship in the areas of community mental health,
homelessness, violence, and program evaluation. Elisabeth R. Daguio,
MBA, is membership benefits analyst for the National Association of Social
Workers Insurance Trust, Washington, DC. Ms. Daguio has more than 15 years of experience
in the marketing and administration of group insurance programs and, among other duties,
has analyzed and compiled data from the Trust-sponsored social workers' professional
liability program.
