Tony Tripodi, MSW, DWS, ACSW, is director, doctoral program, associate director
and professor, School of Social Work, Florida International University, North Miami. He
has conducted research on many subjects of interest to social workers, including clinical
judgment, juvenile delinquency, psychotherapy, program evaluation, research methodology,
and use of research methods by social workers. Dr. Tripodi has served as a research and
evaluation consultant for national and international organizations such as the European
Common Market and the Zancan Foundation in Padova, Italy. He was a member of the Task
Force on Social Work Research, National Institute of Mental Health; currently, he is a
member of the National Research Advisory Committee, Boysville, Michigan; a member of the
Board of Visitors to the President of Clark Atlanta University; and a participant in
setting a research agenda for comprehensive school-linked services for children and
families, sponsored by the Office of Educational Research, U.S. Department of Education.
Dr. Tripodi was editor-in-chief of Social Work Research & Abstracts from
1980 to 1984. He serves on the editorial boards of several professional journals. He has
written or co-authored 15 textbooks on research and evaluation, co-edited six books, and
published extensively in social work, psychology, public health, and interdisciplinary
evaluation journals and books. Among his most recent publications (with others) are Involuntary
Clients in Social Work Practice: A Research-Based Approach (1994), Direct Practice
Research in Human Service Agencies (1994), and Metodi di Misurazione Nelle Attivita
de Servizo Sociale: A Conttato Diretto Con Lšutenze (1993).
