The first edition of Gerontology for Health Professionals was a very useful volume that included a number of excellent articles on a wide variety of topics, all important for consideration by professionals in the social and health care systems. This second edition is strengthened by the addition of new chapters on AIDS, elder abuse, and advance directives. Florence Safford and George Krell are to be commended for the currency and excellence of this updated work.

Gerontology for Health Professionals, 2nd Edition, is invaluable because it has been designed specifically for social workers. It covers not only ubiquitous medical conditions among elderly people, such as dementia and incontinence, but also ethnic and racial diversity, ethics, elder abuse, advance directives, and case management, among other topics. Although this impressive book focuses on essential knowledge for health professionals in diverse settings, the many kinds and levels of practice are introduced and integrated throughout.
